Kevin Tastes: #14 Insel-Brauerei - Surfers

In the Kevin Proeft series, Kevin van Hoorn, diplomatic beer sommelier, beer judge and amateur brewer shares his wondrous walk through alcohol-free beer country. Kevin has tasted 24 alcohol-free and low-alcohol beers, the experience of which he is going to share with you. All tasted beers can be found in the webshop.

Insel-Brauerei - Surfers

The Insel-Brauerei is located on Germany's largest island, Rügen, which is about twice the size of Texel. The brewery has unique packaging that ensures no sunlight reaches the beer and keeps it as fresh as possible.

Brewer Markus has chosen to post-ferment all his beers in the bottle, I'm sure this is due to his brewmasters friends from Belgium. For a non-alcoholic beer, this is quite unique as virtually all low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beers are pasteurized.

This Summer Ale, as the brewer calls it, does indeed have a fresh aroma of orange, lime and mint. These fruits return in the taste as well, and the aftertaste is reminiscent of orange with pumpkin. Co-pouring the yeast provides a complete taste experience and is highly recommended.

Cheers
