A small brewery began brewing beer according to the German Reinheitsgebot in 1824. More than 200 years later, one of Europe's most modern private breweries has been built on this site: Brauerei C&A VELTINS GmbH.

The water, which originates from springs in the nature reserve around Grevenstein, is exceptionally soft.
