About the brewer

Põhjala was founded in Tallinn (Estonia) at the end of 2011 by four Estonian beer enthusiasts and home brewers. The first Põhjala beer, Öö Imperial Baltic Porter, was launched in early 2013. Initially, Põhjala’s beers were mainly brewed on a contract basis at other breweries’ production facilities.

The reason for this is that it does not yet have its own production facility. The first Põhjala brewery opened in April 2014, in the Nõmme district of Tallinn. At the end of 2018, the brewery moved to the historic Noblessner shipyard area by the sea in North Tallinn. The brewery and taproom now feature a 50 hl Rolec brewhouse and a Framax bottling line, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and a taproom with 120 seats and 24 taps.
