About the brewer

Põhjala was founded in Tallinn, Estonia, in late 2011 by four Estonian beer lovers and home brewers. The first Põhjala beer, Öö Imperial Baltic Porter, was released in early 2013. Põhjala's beers were initially brewed primarily on contract in production facilities of other breweries.

The reason for this is not yet having its own production facility. The first Põhjala brewery opened in April 2014, in Tallinn's Nõmme district. In late 2018, the brewery moved to the historic Noblessner shipyard area by the sea in northern Tallinn. The brewery and taproom now features a 50-hl Rolec brewhouse and Framax archive line, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and a taproom with 120 seats and 24 taps.
