Founded in 1881 by French Cistercians, this abbey is best known for its Trappist beer La Trappe, one of the few true Trappist beers still brewed by monks within the monastery walls. Brewery De Koningshoeven, where La Trappe beers are brewed, is one of two Dutch Trappist brewers and is located in Berkel-Enschot. Trappist beer has been brewed here since 1884.
